Yatra to Badrinath resumed after five days, on Monday. With breached points repaired and blockages removed from Badrinath highway, the road was opened to small and light vehicles on Monday, Chamoli District Magistrate Ashok Kumar said. A total of 450 pilgrims reached Badrinath and paid obeisance, he said.
The very first spell of monsoon rains had breached the highway at Hathi Pahad, <g data-gr-id="16">Lambagad</g> and Benakuli on June 24-25 bringing the pilgrimage to a halt.
However, yatra to Kedarnath is suspended till Tuesday, with a motor bridge between Sonparayag and Gaurikund still under repair.
Pilgrims on way to Hemkund Sahib are also not being allowed to proceed beyond Govindghat as a wooden bridge over the Pushpavati river at Bhyundar village, along the 14-km trek route to the Sikh shrine, still being repaired, Gurudwara's manager Seva Singh said. Meanwhile, 80 Hemkund Sahib pilgrims stranded in Ghanghariya on their return journey were ferried to their destination in choppers, the DM said.
