Badarpur-Fbd metro line to be operational in 2 months

Delhi Metro Railway Corporation had made its foray into Haryana five years ago and with this project the DMRC will further spread its operations in the neighbouring state.
“Trial runs on the 14 km-long elevated corridor, on the network’s Violet Line, will begin in a week’s time as construction work of the entire corridor and the stations has been completed, and tracks have been laid, with final touches being given before the wheels go rolling,” a DMRC official today said.
The corridor is an extension of the existing Mandi House -Badarpur line (Line 6) of the DMRC network, and according to official estimates, presently the average ridership on it (Line 6) stands at around 1.92 lakh per day.
“We expect to make the extension line operational in the next two months. After trial runs, which will begin soon, we hope to get Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) clearance, after inspecting the line for all safety parameters for passengers,” Executive Director, DMRC’s Corporate Communications, Anuj Dayal said.
To expedite construction in the route, the viaducts on the entire length of the route have been built using pre-built u-shaped sleek girders, as they were brought to the site and installed in a short span of time.
Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) are coming up at all the nine stations on the route, from Sarai till Escorts Mujesar, in an order to make the stations, situated alongside the Mathura Road (NH 2), easily accessible to commuters, officials said.
With an expected rise in the average ridership, DMRC is also pressing into service more six-coach trains on the corridor, which currently has a total of 29 four-coach trains.
“Presently out of 30 trains, only one six-coach train is available on the Mandi House-Badarpur corridor. Out of the rest 29, four more trains have already been converted into six-coach trains and are ready to be inducted into service,” an official said.
Once fully operational, Line 6 will span from Kashmere Gate to Escorts Mujesar having a length of 43.4 km, with a total of 32 stations including five interchange stations, namely Kashmere Gate, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, Lajpat Nagar and Kalkaji Mandir.
The depot for the upcoming section, which has been named Arjonda Depot, till Faridabad has been constructed near Sector 20 A in the city.
Officials said that two more stations, NCB Colony and Ballabgarh, would be added in the line by 2017 thus increasing the length of the line by another 3.2 km.
DMRC has also made provisions for property development in all the stations at ground level as well as in the concourse area, with an added emphasis on their aesthetics. “The external facade of the stations has been finished in combination of textured paint, structural glazing. The signages have also been provided with vinyl pasted letters and graphics with LED light fixtures,” a spokesman said.
The corridor’s extension till ITO, on the opposite end, has been delayed due to technical issues pertaining to “reversal” of carriages, as trains going towards the station would also use the same line, similar to the arrangement at the Mandi House station presently.
