It’s the time to celebrate music. Yes, you heard it right. Tomorrow (21 June) is the celebrated as the World Music Day and Sangeet Natak Akademi brings the second edition of Sanchayan to live this spirit. The Akademi shall be screening a music concert by  Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Bharat Ratna and Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellow today.

Over the past six decades, the  Akademi has built up a large archive of audio-tapes, photographs, films and video-tapes on the performing arts. Documentary films in the archive have been screened for the benefit of general and specialized audiences from time to time. In 2005, an initiative was taken to exhibit the films on regular basis. The first fortnightly screening was held on June 2005 where two films on Ustad Allauddin Khan and Ustad KhBade Ghulam Alai an, both directed by Hari Das Gupta were shown. 

Sanchayan is a new initiative of the Akademi to share its collection with those who relish the performing arts through the screening of video recordings. Sachayan’s first series of films were screened from 14 January to 19 May 2014, and included – Performing Art Forms of Lakshadweep; Adhe Adhure; Mand Mahotsava; Ang Tarang: Mayurbhanj Chhau; Chhayanatak; Sankirtana and Chhau. Some of the screenings concluded with an interaction between the artists featured in the films and the audience.
