Babul Supriyo likely to be face of Bengal in Modi’s cabinet

Indian playback singer Babul Supriyo, who has won from the Asansol seat in West Begal, is expected to be the face of Bengal in the Narendra Modi’s cabinet.

Considered as a blue-eyed boy of Modi as well as of superstar Amitabh Bachchan (who is also the brand Ambassador of Gujarat), Babul was approached by the central party leadership to contest from West Bengal in February. In March, his name was included in the party’s list of candidates.

In a short span of time, he took the challenge and prepared himself to give a tough fight in the Lok Sabha election to Trinamool Congress candidate Dola Sen. His hard work started bearing fruits as he got immense response in Asansol and won by a margin of over 70,000 votes.

Speaking to the Millennium Post Supriyo said, ‘I don’t have words to express my feeling. This is not my victory but it is a victory of the people of Bengal especially those who voted for me in my constituency.’
He said, ‘It was a difficult battle, but I would like to thank my party workers who have worked tirelessly for being with me in my difficult time.’

While remembering his childhood days, he said, ‘When I was young I came to Delhi and took picture of Parliament and India Gate. I never thought that one day I will be a member of this temple of democracy. I would like to thank all the senior party leaders who have given me this opportunity to serve the party.’

When asked whether he has any words with Modi, he said, ‘During the election campaign in West Bengal he told me that Parliament wants Babul.’

Today I wished him at the Central Hall and he gave me his blessing. ‘I told you Parliament main Babul Chahiye Aur Babul Aa Gaya. (I want Babul in the parliament and Babul has come),’ Babul narrated what Modi has told him in the Parliament.

‘He asked me to fight against corruption and instructed me to work for the poor and downtrodden. I accepted his challenges and will try my best to follow his footsteps. Once again I would like to thank him,’ he said.
