There was pin drop silence in a non-commercial health awareness event attended by 130 students and professors at the sociology department of Hindu college when Senior Cardiologist Dr Pramod Kumar of Fortis Hospital told them about a 29 year old who suffered heart attack last week. It got even intense when it was told that it’s not the only case, but a frightening trend where people as young as 21 are getting hospitalized for heart diseases. He further stated that ‘now heart diseases are occurring much earlier in people. And we expect Indians to have it more early that western population because of genetic reasons. And the 2 major reasons behind are smoking and being physically inactive’. Oncologist Dr Ullas Batra advised everyone not to get influenced by Bollywood celebrities like Sharukh Khan or famous songs like Hooka Bar all linked with smoking in news or movies. He further stated that ‘even if you don’t smoke, you must promote quit smoking as a duty’. Interactive session was well-attened by the students who asked several questions.
