Auto drivers meet transport officials to discuss strike

A meeting was held on Wednesday between the transport commissioner Puneet K Goel and the president of Rashtriya Majdur Transport Union Rajender Soni to discuss the ongoing issue of auto rickshaw and taxi strikes in Delhi.

In the meeting, Rajender Soni informed the transport officials about the various grouses of auto drivers in the city.

‘For instance, the transport department decided to install 19,000 GPS systems in autos but only 15,000 have been installed and they are not functional. If the Delhi police and Traffic police violate their own rules and regulations, we have no option but to go on strike on  20 and 21 February.

Transport minister Ramakant Goswami on his part said he will do the needful to address the issue.

‘We will try our level best to sort out this. We will be talking to the Delhi police to get their inputs in this issue as well as to prevent the inconvenience being caused primarily to the auto-rickshaw drivers and ultimately to the commuters.’
