The incident took place at around 10.50 pm when Harish Kumar, an auto driver, was returning home from a dairy shop near his residence in Inderpuri. He was attacked by two persons with an axe, an eyewitness claimed. Later, the accused fled the spot. They also left the axe at the crime spot in a hurry. In the meantime, the eyewitness made a call to the police control room and a team reached the spot.
‘Harish was lying unconscious on the floor in a pool of blood. He was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Based on the documents he was carrying with him, at the time of the incident, his identity was established and the family members were informed,’ a police officer said. His body has been sent for the post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the recovered weapon was sent for the forensic examination. In a statement to police, the family suspected the involvement of a neighbour with whom Harish had often been involved in fights. They informed police that five years ago, Harish had gone to attend a wedding where he had a brawl with the neighbour. Since then the duo shared grudges against each other.
‘A case of murder has been registered at Inderpuri police station. We will investigate the case from all possible angles’, the officer added. Harish is survived by his wife and an infant son.
