With a view to ensure improved ‘governance’, the Delhi government has decided to hike financial powers of the heads of departments and administrative heads (principal secretary level officers). The proposal will be presented in the next sitting of the Delhi Assembly, likely to be held on March 23.
“The decision is based up on a report by the finance department, which had recommended an increase in the financial powers of the officers to meet out operational expenditures,” said a spokesperson of Delhi government.
On the basis of this report, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds charge of the finance department, recommended the hike. As per the proposal, the financial powers of heads of the departments will be hiked from the existing Rs 24 lakhs per annum to Rs 36 lakh per annum, while for principal secretary level officers, it will be raised from Rs 36 lakh per annum to Rs 60 lakh per annum.
The conveyance cost for HODs will be increased from Rs 30,000 per month to one lakh per month; while for principal secretary level officers, there would be no limit. The powers of administrative heads for projects will be increased from the existing Rs 5 crore per month to Rs 10 crore per month.
