Atul Sobti to be next Bhel CMD

State-run power equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (Bhel) on Tuesday said Atul Sobti will be its next chairman and managing director and will take charge on or after January 1.

“Government has approved the appointment of Atul Sobti, Director (Power), Bhel, as chairman and managing director, <g data-gr-id="23">Bhel</g> for a period of five years with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post on or after January 1, 2016, or till the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest,” the company said in a regulatory filing. 

<g data-gr-id="26">Bhel’s</g> present Chairman and Managing Director B P Rao was the first PSU head to receive a <g data-gr-id="14">two year</g> extension after retirement on January 1, 2014.

Rao, was to superannuate on December 31, 2013, but was granted <g data-gr-id="22">extension</g> for a period of two years with effect from January 1, 2014, <g data-gr-id="24">Bhel</g> had informed the stock exchanges. “Department of Heavy Industry, in a communication dated December 31, 2013, has conveyed approval for the extension of tenure of B Prasada Rao, Chairman and Managing Director <g data-gr-id="25">Bhel</g>,” the company had said in a regulatory filing. Rao took over as chairman and managing director of the company in 2009. 
The shares of the company  closed at Rs 217.65, down 3.91  per cent from <g data-gr-id="19">previous</g> close on  the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). 

Amitabh Mathur takes charge as Director (IS&P)
On his appointment as Director on the Board of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Amitabh Mathur, 57, has assumed charge as Director (Industrial Systems & Products) of the Maharatna Public Sector engineering and manufacturing enterprise, here on Tuesday. 

Prior to this, he was heading the company’s Power Sector Eastern Region (PSER), Kolkata as Executive Director. 

Amitabh Mathur has more than 34 years of rich professional experience in having handled diverse functions in Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.
