Attack on BJP MLA, second time in a year

Sunil Kumar Vaidya, an MLA of Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] was targeted by unknown assailants on Saturday night. Reportedly, he has been attacked twice this year. Firing was reported at his office in Mayur Vihar area.

‘The incident took place around 1.30 pm, when some people near Vaidya’s office heard gunshots. When they came out, the two assailants, who were on their motorcycle, had managed to escape. Later, they informed the police and also called Vaidya to inform him about the firing,’ said a police official.

When the cops reached the crime scene, they noticed three gunshot marks on the shutter of the office. ‘Empty bullet shells have been recovered from the area and have have been taken into possession to ascertain the weapon used for firing,’ the official added.

‘I was informed by some locals about the firing and later police made a call to me. When I visited my office in Trilok Puri, I was shocked to see the bold behaviour of the criminals,. who are committing crime in Delhi without any fear,’ said Vaidya. He added, ‘The attack was carried out to threaten me and spread panic in the area. I don’t find any personal reason to attack me.’

The official said a case has been registered against the assailants. Also, the persons who saw them have been asked to help prepare sketches. ‘A few CCTV cameras were installed in the area, so the footage has been collected and investigation is on,’ the official said.

This is not the first time that Vaidya was targeted. Earlier, in January, Vaidya was beaten and robbed in New Ashok Nagar area of Trilokpuri.
