ATM robbery case: Police claim two arrested

Police on Friday claimed that two persons have been arrested in connection with the daylight ATM robbery that took place on 2 August in north-east Delhi’s Mansarovar Park area.
The arrested duo have been identified as Mohmmad Azim (24 ) and Mohmmad Nazim (23) were apprehended. Two other accused are still absconding.
On 2 August, a notorious gang of four members carried out a robbery at gunpoint and looted Rs 36 lakh from the ATM. Since then a manhunt had been on to nab the accused on the basis of the CCTV footages and the sketches prepared with the help of eyewitnesses.
The robbery took place when a cash van came to the ATM to put money into it. The driver of the van Jitender Singh was standing outside the ATM when a Wagon-R car stopped ahead of the van and three persons alighted from it leaving behind the driver inside the Wagon-R.
One of the persons caught hold of the gunman and hit him with the butt of a country-made pistol. The second person placed a pistol on the neck of the driver whereas the third person entered the ATM and looted the suitcase containing around Rs 36 lakh.
All the accused persons fled away from the spot in the same Wagon-R car along with looted booty and double barrel gun of the security guard. Dheeraj Kumar, additional DCP (north-east) said, ‘A team was formed to carry out raids at several places in Delhi, Amroha and Ghaziabad. It succeeded in apprehending two accused. On sustained interrogation they confessed their crime.’
