Atleast 7 flights depart late from IGI daily, says DIAL

According to the data of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the operator of IGI Airport, from 1 May to 30 June, 2014, as many as 321 flights have been delayed due to technical problem while 163 flights got delayed due to cabin crew glitches.

The data shows that 117 flights were delayed in May and while in June as many as 204 flights got delayed due to technical faults.

On the other hand, 89 flights were delayed in May and 84 flights in June got delayed due to problems with cabin crew.

According to recent figures released by DIAL, Singapore Airlines tops the list with highest number (175 flights) of flights that got delayed.  Indian carrier Air India comes distant second with 84 flights for the period of May to June 2014.

The technical automated equipment failures can occur due to several reasons like aircraft defects, scheduled maintenance works, late releases, non-scheduled maintenance works, special checks and/or additional works beyond normal maintenance, etc.

The data further reveals that Air India reports highest number (91 flights) of delays due to problem with cabin crews. Cabin crew glitches may occur due to late completion or change of flight documentation, late crew boarding or departure procedures, cabin crew shortage, etc.

In May, 2014, a total of 9,416 flights departed from IGI, among which 8,144 flights left on time while 1,302 flights were delayed. Similarly, in June 2014 a total of 9,161 flights departed from IGI. While 7,566 flights departed on time 1,595 flights got delayed. Sources in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have informed that the authorities are planning to take steps in this direction.
