Atali clash: Construction of mosque stayed till June 9

A local court on Saturday extended the stay on the construction of the mosque, which is at the centre of the communal row, by three more days after defendants failed to respond to the petition.

The petition was filed by Suresh Chaudhary, a resident of Faridabad’s Atali village which was rocked by communal clash on May 25 over construction of the mosque on a land which the other side clams that belonged to village panchayat. On June 5, Judicial Magistrate Puneet Sehgal had sought reply from the defendant Muslim side and had stayed the construction of the mosque by a day.

The court had also asked the district administration to submit the status of ownership of the land. However, on Saturday, none of the respondents submitted reply. Since the two respondents-- Muslim Community and the district administration-- didn’t file any reply, the court extended the stay on any construction activity on the disputed land till June 9.

The court has asked the respondents to submit their reply on the next date of hearing that is June 9.
