Students seeking admission in Hindi and other Honours courses under the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) cannot do so if they haven’t studied English in Class XII. Delhi University colleges have made English a compulsory subject at the intermediate level.
Senior official of the University, on the condition of anonymity said, ‘Cut-off is not the only headache but students seeking admissions in DU in their desirable courses like Hindi (Honours), Political (Honours), History (Honours) and Sanskrit (Honours) will have to include English as a compulsory subject at Intermediate level under the additional eligibility criteria (AEC) of various colleges of Delhi University from this academic session’.
Ram Lal Anand College of Delhi University has made it clear that under AEC, students who are seeking admission in the evening shift for Hindi (Honours) and Political (Honours) must have studied English in Class X.
Sri Venkateswara College that has broadly the same admission criteria wants that applicants must have studied English in their Class XII as well.
Miranda House, which is offering six semesters in History (Honours) from this academic session, is demanding 60 per cent marks in English at Intermediate level for admitting students in the History (Honours) course under AEC. Lady Shri Ram College has made English compulsory for Sanskrit (Honours) in Class XII, while students seeking admission in Hindi (Honours) will have to secure a minimum of 55 per cent in English in Class XII.
Hansraj College has made English mandatory in Class X for students seeking admission in Hindi (Honours).
‘If students are unsuccessful in meeting the criteria under the AEC, their chances of admission in the courses of their choice stand bleak’, the official said.
