Assamese student thrashed with baseball bat

The accused persons, identified as Mohit (24) and Abhay (25) — were annoyed because the victim did not allow their vehicle to overtake. They thrashed the victim with a baseball bat, which was there in the back seat of their car, after a violent argument and fled from the spot. The victim is admitted to AIIMS, and his condition was reported to be stable on Wednesday evening.
The victim was identified as Mandeep Kalita, who belongs to Assam. But he lived with his parents in Lajpat Nagar IV area, adjacent to Amar Colony. Mandeep and his friend Arshad were returning home after their workout from a gymnasium in Amar Colony, when the incident took place. It was Arshad, who noted the registration number of the car and reported it to the police. It turned out to be a cab and later, the accused were arrested from their homes.
They have been booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and other relevant sections of the law, the police official added. In the previous week, an Assamese youth was severely beaten up by some locals in Amar Colony. It was suspected to be a case of mistaken identity and no arrests have been made as of yet.
