Assamese girl gang-raped, accused nabbed by cops

An Assamese girl was allegedly gang-raped by two men hailing from her state in Mahipalpur area in south Delhi. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon and her boyfriend is stated to be one of the two accused. The accused were arrested by Delhi police late Saturday evening.

According to police, the incident took place on Friday afternoon when the girl came to Delhi with her boyfriend, with whom she had a relationship for the past year. 

Fifteen days ago, the victim, a college student, left home after Rahul, her boyfriend, promised to marry her. The duo went to Kerala for holiday and on Friday they landed in the national capital. Since they were short of money, Rahul proposed an idea that the couple stay at his friend’s place in south Delhi’s Mahipalpur area.

Trusting him she agreed to the proposal and they reached Harun’s (the other accused) rented accommodation in Vasant Kunj. ‘In the afternoon, Rahul forced the victim to develop physical relations with him. When she resisted, he allegedly raped her. In the meantime, Harun joined him and the duo took turns to rape her throughout the day,’ an official said, quoting the victim’s statement.

She was brutally gang-raped by them and on late Friday evening she was dumped at an isolated place. On Saturday, when she regained her consciousness, she tried to seek help from the locals. One passerby took her to a PCR van parked nearby. Finding her clothes torn, the police suspected that something was terribly amiss. She then narrated the incident to a female police official and a call was made to the nearest police station from the PCR van.

She was taken to Safdarjung hospital, where her medical examination confirmed rape. On the basis of her statement, a case of gang-rape was registered at Vasant Kunj (north) police station. She was taken to the place where she was raped. ‘Initially she was unable to recognise the residence but in the evening she recalled the location. Further, the identities of the accused were learnt by officials, who nabbed them on Saturday night, the official added.
