Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, has demanded that the Lieutenant Governor orders 21 Parliamentary Secretaries to vacate the government offices occupied by them. The officials were appointed in the previous year. Gupta has demanded strict legal action against them, stating that their appointment violates the Constitution. Gupta said the BJP would also raise this issue in the Assembly session starting from Tuesday.
Gupta said the Parliamentary Secretaries have been appointed in an arbitrary fashion, without seeking the LG’s consent. Constitutional experts have called it a gross violation, while the BJP had objected to it since the beginning.
“This is the first time in the history of the Delhi assembly that 21 Parliamentary Secretaries have been appointed, causing huge burden on the exchequer. Also, till now their appointment has not provided any benefit whatsoever to the common man,” he said.
