Asaram’s supporters choke traffic at Noida Gate

Thousands of daily commuters were trapped in the jam for more than five hours.

The supporters were protesting against a few news channels for allegedly  defaming Asaram by making false allegations of molesting a minor girl.

More than 500 protesters, mainly women, under the umbrella of Sarthak NGO reached Noida gate at around 1 pm and sat on the road to stop the vehicular movement between Noida and Delhi. They raised slogans against Noida police for not taking action against the news channels situated in the city for allegedly telecasting an obscene video clip showing Asaram, a minor girl and a woman in an objectionable position.

The protesters said that four news channels have been telecasting a video clip regularly since December which shows Asaram, a woman and minor girl in objectionable position. The protesters believe that the video is doctored and the channels are airing it for their vested interests. The protesters demanded an FIR against these channels and threatened that if the city police fail to initiate action against the editors of these channels, they would intensify their agitation from next week.

A protester said that a zero-FIR was also registered by the Gurgaon police against the directors and editors but Noida police have yet not initiated its investigation. However, the Noida police maintains that it is not be able to initiate the probe as Gurgaon police has not completed the formalities yet and have transferred the incomplete report.

A senior official of Noida police said, ‘The Gurgaon police has not recorded the statement of victims or probed the concerned employees of news channels. It has sent an incomplete report to us. We have now written to the SSP of Haryana police and are waiting for their reply. Once we get the reply, we will decide our next step.’

Meanwhile, the blockage not only affected the DND route but also Kalindi Kunj and Jhudnpura road as commuters later used these routes to reach their destination.
