As Delhi sees hottest day, power demand shoots up

‘The maximum and minimum temperatures on Thursday are likely to hover around 42 and 24 degrees Celsius respectively,’ said a senior official at the meteorological department. A slight fall in temperature after Thursday has been, however, predicted by the Met. ‘The maximum temperature is likely to be around 40 degree Celsius on weekend,’ the official added.

The maximum temperature in Delhi on Wednesday was 42.1 degrees Celsius which was three notches above the normal while minimum temperature was 22.8 degrees Celsius one point below the normal. This summer, the heat wave reached Delhi after a spate of western disturbances and thunder-showers that kept the city cool for most of April. The maximum temperature finally started heading north with Tuesday’s maximum finally crossing the 40-degree mark.
