A day after a Delhi University student was found murdered in North-west Delhi’s Model Town area, police has refuted that the 21-year-old Arzoo Singh was pregnant as per the initial medical reports. Police arrested the main accused, Naveen Khatri who confessed that he killed her in a fit of anger.
Arzoo, a third year Hindi Honours student of Laxmi Bai college, was allegedly abducted by Naveen on February 2 who strangled her with her dupatta at South-west Delhi’s Nangal Dewat area.
He then hid her body in the boot of his car and took it to his house where he stuffed the body inside a ventilation shaft. Two days later, he got married to another woman and stayed in a room near to where Arzoo’s body was hidden.
Senior police officials said that during interrogation, Khatri revealed that another person was also involved in eliminating Arzoo Singh. He admitted that he killed her in a fit of rage when she threatened that she would tell his family about their secret meetings and would create drama if he gets married to another woman.
Meanwhile, the cops said that they found Naveen’s father who went missing since the day Arzoo’s body was found by the police.
“During questioning, he said that he is not involved in the murder and was only hiding because he feared that the blame for the girl’s death would fall on him. He also said that he and a relative got to know about the girl’s death only after police found the body at the Rajpura house,” said Vijay Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-west).
The official added that Khatri was produced in court, which sent him to three days police custody. A police source said that Khatri’s father, who left his house by the time the incident came to light on Sunday, was released on parole last year. He was sent to prison in connection with a neighbour’s murder case.
