Arzoo Singh’s family meet Bassi; top cop assures justice

Family members of the DU student Arzoo Singh who was murdered by her boyfriend visited the Delhi Police headquarters on Tuesday to share their concern over the injustice meted out to them by only arresting the accused boyfriend, Naveen Khatri. Delhi Police commissioner B S Bassi has ensured that  justice will be given and has handed over the case to Special CP Deepak Mishra, (Law and Order).

In a telephonic conversation with Millennium Post, Vinay Singh Chauhan, Arzoo’s brother levelled allegations against Khatri’s family. He said: “Firstly, Naveen and my sister were only friends. And the fact that they were in a relationship was not known to us. Even if they were in a relationship, a girl will not tolerate being mishandled the way Naveen did. Secondly, when we saw her body after the post-mortem, there were no strangulation marks on her neck. Pieces of cloth were stuffed inside her throat in such a way that her throat had internal injuries. Also she was poisoned and not strangled as claimed by the police.”

“The most important loophole that we noticed was the fact that Arzoo had gone missing on February 2 and was killed on the same day. However, the local police registered a formal case only on the day that her body was found inside the ventilation shaft inside the Khatri’s residence on Saturday night.”

“The Khatri family was known for their criminal records. They have muscle power and moreover, they have contacts in the Delhi Police. Two ACPs are known to their family while one SHO is their uncle. One of the major reasons that the police are not working in this case is because they have been paid Rs 20 lakh by Khatri’s family to hush down the matter,” said Vinay. Meanwhile, senior police officers of the North-west District where the murder case is registered refuted all these allegations, calling them baseless. “The allegations put forward by the girl’s family are false. Since they have lost their daughter, they want all the Khatris to be punished and put behind bars. We have carried out a proper investigation and based on the evidence and confessions of the accused, we have taken action.”
