Arunendra Kumar likely to be Railway Board chairman

Ending a three-month wait, acting chairman of Railway Board Arunendra Kumar is all set to become its full-time chief.

Kumar, the Mechanical Member, was holding additional charge of CRB after the retirement of Vinay Mittal on 30 June.

The Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has cleared Kumar's name for the post of Railway Board chairman and a formal order to this effect will be issued in a day or two, sources in Railways said.

The final selection of the chairman witnessed intense lobbying among the aspirants in Railways.
There were representations from aspirants to Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge and finally the ACC took the decision on the recommendation of the minister after getting CVC clearance.
Appointments at higher posts in Railways are in focus particularly after the alleged cash for job scam unearthed by CBI in May.

The post of Member Staff and Financial Commissioner are also lying vacant for some time and a decision has to be taken by the authorities soon.

Besides, nine posts of general managers are also vacant for months together. Fifteen to 20 DRMs are due for replacement.
