Arun Mishra all set to be new DGCA chief

After the dramatic exit of E K Bharat Bhushan as the chief of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation [DGCA], Arun Mishra, an IAS officer from the West Bengal cadre, is all set to take charge of the post. He succeed the former DGCA head whose controversial and abrupt exit had created a stir in the civil aviation circuit.

The sources in the civil aviation ministry say that Mishra's file is in place and he would soon take charge as the new DGCA head. After Bhushan's removal, a joint secretary Prashant Sukul was temporarily heading the regulatory body for the aviation sector.

The DGCA has been functioning under Shukul. It took an important decision under Shukul of asking the airlines to keep their fares within the fare band.

Bhushan was removed at the behest of corporate airlines, which impressed upon the civil aviation ministry to transfer him. The ministry removed him days after his name had been cleared as the DGCA chief by the Prime Minister's Office.
