Armyman killed in scooty-truck collision

An Armyman lost his life when his scooty was hit by a speeding truck in South Delhi’s Moti Bagh area in the wee hours of Thursday.

The accident took place around 2.45 am when Kiran Singh (31), a resident of Manipur, was riding the scooty along with his friend Jitu.

The duo was going towards the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) when the speeding truck hit their scooty from behind near the Moti Bagh flyover. Kiran lost control over the vehicle and fell on the road. But the errant truck driver failed to spot Kiran and allegedly ran over him.

The police rushed the duo to a hospital, where Kiran was declared brought dead. Jitu’s condition is said to be critical, they said. A case under the relevant sections of the IPC has been registered against the errant truck driver, who is on the run. The police said Kiran was posted at the Dhaula Kuan Camp CASD and was on leave for 15 days for her mother's treatment.

Last month, a man, driving an Audi A4, allegedly mowed down an Armyman of the Assam regiment, in the Delhi Cantt area.
