This is <g data-gr-id="25">second</g> success for the security forces against militants in North Kashmir in the past two days.
Late Wednesday night, security forces received a tip-off that a group of militants were hiding in the forest area of Sochalyari in Kupwara district and launched an operation to trace them, police said.
A gunfight ensued between the militants and Armymen and continued till the wee hours of Thursday, said a police official. However, the police are yet to ascertain the identity of the four slain militants killed. Police said efforts are being made to ascertain their identity and group affiliation.
On Wednesday, the Army had killed a militant believed to be responsible for a number of recent killings and targeting of mobile installations in the Rafiabad area of Baramulla district. An <g data-gr-id="23">Armyman</g> also lost his life in that encounter.
The militant was identified as Riyaz Ahmad, a resident of Brath Kalan in Sopore. According to the police, Ahmad was affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Islam (LeI), a breakaway group of Hizbul Mujahideen.
“He was involved in a number of killings in Sopore and adjoining areas. He was also involved in threatening and terrorising the landlords of mobile towers and mobile franchise owners,” police said.
Ceasefire violation, infiltration to be raised in BSF-Pak Rangers meet
Repeated ceasefire violation and frequent infiltration bids by terrorists will be the top agenda of the meeting to be held between heads of border guards of India and Pakistan next week. The meeting between chiefs of Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers will be held from September 9 to 13, a fortnight after the cancellation of NSA talks between India and Pakistan. “The agenda for the meeting has been exchanged by the two sides. From <g data-gr-id="44">Indian</g> side, we will raise the issue of repeated ceasefire violation and frequent infiltration attempts by terrorists,” a senior official said. The BSF will also talk about the killing of civilians living in border areas in firing by Pakistan soldiers. Pakistan Rangers are also expected to raise the same issue as they have been claiming casualties in their side too.
