Armed thieves rob jewellery store of gold worth Rs 1.5 crore in Rohini

The incident took place at around 1.45 pm at the Shahi Jewellery Store located in Pocket B of Rohini Sector 17 in Outer Delhi. Sources said that the CCTV cameras were defunct at the time of the incident. Police are probing the role of an insider behind the robbery.
Moreover, police said that, in the initial investigation, owner of Shahi Jewellers claimed that jewellery up to Rs 1. 5 crore has been robbed. However, police are still conducting a probe to establish the exact amount of jewellery which can go up to Rs 3.5 crore.
According to the preliminary police investigation, eyewitnesses told police that four men got down from a white car near the jewellery store. While two men entered the showroom, two others waited outside. Pretending to be customers, the men started looking at diamond rings, one of the employees told the police. During the time of the incident, only two persons were present inside the showroom. While one was an employee, the other was the owner’s son-Nikunj, said a police officer.
Within a few minutes, one of them whipped out a pistol and pointed it at the employee and asked for all the jewellery and cash. The other two entered the showroom and started threatening Nikunj and the employee.
Police said that one round was fired in the incident. After looting the jewellery store, the four fled in their white car. The accused took away Nikunj’s pistol, which he kept for safety.
According to the police, they received a call at around 2 pm. Based on which, they reached the spot.
According to a police officer privy to the investigation, seven to eight CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the jewellery showroom. The owner claimed that the CCTV cameras were not working for the past few days.
Moreover, the owner claimed that his jewellery showroom has been robbed in the past as well.
However, police are checking records to see if a complaint or FIR was lodged regarding the same.
A case under Sections 394 (Voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 397 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the K N Katju Marg police station. Further investigation is underway.
