Armed men rob train passengers

Several passengers of a train, which had halted at Old Delhi Railway Bridge near Old Delhi railway station, were robbed off allegedly by about half-a- dozen unidentified armed men, police said on Thursday.

The incident happened on Wednesday night when Moradabad-Delhi passenger train (train number 54307) was waiting for signal to turn green at the Old Delhi railway bridge, also know as Old Iron bridge, situated between Shahdara Junction and Old Delhi Junction, they said.

‘As the train waited for signal to turn green, armed men barged into one of its coaches and robbed several people at knife and gun point. Some of whom who tried to resist were beaten up by the goons. They managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness when the train started to move,’ a police official said.

The matter came to light when the train reached Old Delhi Railway Station and the victims approached railway officials and the police. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital from where they were discharged after treatment.

A senior police official said that a case has been registered against the unidentified miscreants and efforts were on to apprehend them.

Police is trying to identify the miscreants from the description provided to them by the victims. Investigators said that several small gangs of miscreants are active along the stretches of the railway track between Shahdara and Old Delhi railway station. Armed men rob train passengers.
