Armed assailants loot bus depot

 As many as seven armed assailants struck at Delhi Transport Corporation’s Millenium Bus Depot here in the wee hours on Tuesday and decamped with Rs 7.5 lakh cash and cheques worth Rs 40 thousand after stabbing a cashier, police said.

The incident took place around 3:30 am in cash section number three when cashier, identified as Vikram Singh (55) was outside his cabin in the premises of the depot which is said to be the largest bus station in the world.

‘Around seven people, armed with guns and knives, reached the spot and one of them pointed a gun at him and asked for the cabin’s key. When Singh resisted, they stabbed him in his shoulder and then snatched the keys from him,’ said a senior police official.

According to a senior DTC official, the robbers then entered the cabin and robbed Rs 7.5 lakh cash and cheques worth 40 thousand. This was the money deposited by conductors of various DTC buses. The robbers then fled leaving behind Singh in a pool of blood.

Minutes later, a DTC official discovered Singh lying injured following which he made a PCR call and reported the matter.

‘A police team rushed to the spot and Singh was taken to the LNJP Hospital where he was recuperating from his injuries. His condition is said to now be out of danger,’ said a senior police officer.

Based on a complaint filed by DTC, a case under appropriate section has been registered at Sunlight Police station.
‘We are scanning footage of CCTV cameras installed at the entry point of the depot to identify the accused,  the officer said.
