Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday has appealed to all the distress farmers not to commit suicide after their crops were damaged due to natural calamities.
While raising his concern, Singh tweeted, “The states should immediately address the crisis facing the farmers. I appeal to farmers in distress not to commit suicide. We are with you.” In the last few weeks, more than a dozen of debt-laden farmers have committed suicide across India due to unseasonal rains and hailstorm which badly damaged the winter crop in large parts northern India. The calamity has forced them to take the extreme step as they are not in a state to pay their respective loans. The farmers alleged that their respective state governments had shown indifference towards them.
