Apex Court seeks details of cases related to 2008 Bangalore blasts

The Supreme Court has asked Abdul Nazir Maudany, a leader of Kerala-based Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and prime accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts, and the Karnataka government to provide complete information on the pending terror cases against him.

A Bench, comprising Justices J Chelameswar and AM <g data-gr-id="14">Sapre</g>, sought the details when Prashant Bhushan, counsel for Maudany, argued for clubbing of all terror cases pending against his client in Bangalore.  “You both ascertain the facts and file affidavits,” the Bench said, adding that the affidavits should contain the fact as to whether the same set of persons were facing trial in all the nine cases. The Bench has now fixed the plea of Maudany for hearing on October 12.

Maudany is the prime accused in the serial blasts that shook Bangalore on July 25, 2008. Nine bombs had exploded in the city, in which two persons were killed and 20 injured. In July last year, the court had granted one-month bail to Maudany on health grounds. It had also said the Karnataka government was at liberty to take all steps to ensure that he does not get in touch with witnesses in the case.
