The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked Central Vigilance Commission to file report on steps taken for protection of whistleblowers after it was made the nodal agency for their safety in 2004 in the wake of murder of whistleblower Satyendra Dubey.
A bench headed by Justice T S Thakur directed the CVC to file a status report giving details of action taken so far on the complaints of the whistleblowers and whether it has done independent investigation on receiving the complaints by them.
The order was passed on a public interest litigation filed by NGO Parivartan whose counsel Prashant Bhushan alleged that the system that was put in place in 2004 is not working and has failed.
