Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan on Tuesday came under attack from Opposition parties after his reported meetings with top Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, during his two-day trip to New Delhi.
While Opposition Telugu Desam accused the Governor of acting like a ‘Congress agent’, CPI said Narasimhan was crossing the ‘Lakshman Rekha’. Both parties accused the Governor of ‘sitting’ on the file related to the prosecution of state Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, named as an accused in the CBI charge sheet in Vanpic Port land scandal. ‘The Governor should reject the state Cabinet decision of not granting permission for prosecution of Dharmana. In fact, the Governor should dismiss the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government for trying to protect the corrupt,’ said TDP Legislature Party deputy leader Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu. Accusing Narasimhan of acting like an ‘agent’ of the Congress party, Naidu demanded that the Governor initiate action against four others Congress ministers facing charges related to the issue of 26 controversial Government Orders during the previous YS Rajasekhara Reddy administration.
CPI State Secretary K Narayana said the style of functioning of the Governor was ‘suspicious’ and he was crossing the ‘Lakshmana Rekha’.
