Anti-Corruption Cell: CM, Centre headed for another tussle

Once again the Central government is pushing the chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to the wall on the issue of providing honest officers for its Anti-Corruption Cell. According to sources, annoyed by Kejriwal, Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde is silently working to put maximum possible hurdles in Kejriwal’s way.

Highly placed sources in Delhi police revealed that IPS officer Praveer Ranjan was very eager to join the Anti-Corruption Cell but after Kejriwal’s two-day dharna near Krishi Bhawan in which the chief minister levelled corruption charges on Shinde and Delhi police, he was asked to opt for Puducherry instead. Following the ‘instructions from the top’, Rajan, reportedly opted for his earlier assignment.

Rajan is, however, not the only officer to opt out. Around a dozen officers of Delhi police hand-picked by Kejriwal for the cell don’t want to join it for fear of getting caught in the crossfire between the Center and state governments.

The developments indicate that Congress-led Central government has started feeling that Kejriwal needs to be controlled.

‘Earlier, the Center extended a very cooperative gesture as Kejriwal’s demand of SK Srivastava as chief secretary was immediately cleared the first lot of Delhi police officers was also cleared for anti-corruption cell,’ said a senior officer of Delhi government. The officers in Delhi Secretariat predict that the tension between state and Central government is likely to soar in coming days.

It’s pertinent to mention that before sitting on dharna, Kejriwal had stated, ‘I had no option but sit on dharna as Centre government is not ready to listen to the views of an elected government,’
It would be interesting to see how chief minister resolves this issue.
