Anti-corruption activists ready for probe: Kejriwal

Fed up with constant allegations of corruption against some of its members, India Against Corruption has decided to set up a committee of three retired judges to probe charges against them.

IAC activist-turned-leader Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that IAC had decided to send the  complaints against three IAC activists – Prashant Bhushan, Anjali Damania and Mayank Gandhi –  to the internal Lokpal of the organisation consisting of three retired judges. The judges are – Justice A P Shah, former chief justice of Delhi HC, Justice B H Marlapalle, retired judge of Bombay high court and Justice Jaspal Singh, retired judge of Delhi HC.

Kejriwal said that there are allegations against Bhushan, Damania and Gandhi and their cases would be sent to the judges who form an internal Lokpal, who will study their cases from Monday and submit their report within three months. He said that if the allegations against the IAC members are found to be true, they will be immediately expelled.

Kejriwal said 'We have from time to time requested the govt to set up an independent enquiry to investigate into the matter and give us double the punishment than prescribed if found guilty. Unfortunately, the government has been more interested in mud-slinging than setting up an independent probe.'

Bhushan has been accused of illegalities in land deals in Palampur, Damania faces allegations of buying seven acres of farmland in Maharashtra from two farmers and later changing their use to non-agricultural purpose and Gandhi faces the charges of using his NGO to help his builder uncle and other builders.

Kejriwal said that IAC would soon announce an email id on which people could send their allegations and evidence against any members of his party. Meanwhile, Manish Sisodia, talking to Millennium Post, said, 'Our organisation is growing and it is not possible to know each and every details of our activists. We had checked the papers Anjali Damania had given on BJP president Nitin Gadkari, but did not know about the charges against Damania. Now since the inquiry has been ordered, everything will come out in the open, if the charges are true.'
