Ansal, Maple Bear sign JV to open pre-schools

Realty firm Ansal Properties and Infrastructure on Wednesday announced a tie-up with Canada's education group Maple Bear for setting up 10 pre-schools in its projects across north India, entailing an investment of about Rs 60 crore. Maple Bear Global Schools Ltd operates in India through a joint venture with Modi group firm Modi Edutech and currently has about 30 schools in operation across the country.

The company would provide land and construct buildings for opening up of these schools while management would be with Maple Bear. The provision of these schools is expected to add value to real estate projects. Maple Bear Global Schools does business in India, Brazil, Bangladesh, China, Vietnam, Morocco, Mexico, Turkey and South Korea. The Maple Bear programme is written by experienced Canadian educators and is based on best practices in Canadian schools.

Created by Canadian experts, it is being constantly upgraded to ensure that the Maple Bear Education System reflects the very best in early childhood education. Maple Bear uses a methodology that has all the ingredients to ensure that the children are prepared for the 21st century.

Speaking on the tie- up, Ansal Vice-Chairman [VC] and Managing Director [MD] Pranav Ansal said, 'We are delighted to partner with Maple Bear India for coming up with Canadian styled pre-schools in India. There is a huge opportunity open in education sector here. One out of 100 children are enrolled in a pre-school. We plan to open Maple Bear Pre-schools in most of our upcoming townships in all major towns in India.’

'It is a 50:50 partnership. To start with, we will open 10 schools,' he added. The locations for schools include Greater Noida, Kundli, Kurukshetra, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Jodhpur and Meerut. The fees are in the range of 25,000-70,000 per year depending on the locations.

Maple Bear Global Schools Vice-President Gerald Macleod said, 'In my visit to India I am thrilled to rediscover my favourite images of the country — vibrant colour, intense activity, traffic, lots of people, wonderful hospitality, beautiful use of English, high respect for education and the strong desire to teach children well.'

'All of these characteristics were evident in and around the schools I have visited in last two days that is at Ansal Plaza, Gurgaon and Modipuram. The highlights for me were the outstanding student performances in Modipuram and the meetings with teachers in both Modipuram and Ansal Plaza. I was really impressed with the quality of the Maple Bear School Ansal Plaza and overall the professional sincerity of the teachers,' noted Macleod.

'We are introducing the Canadian style of education in the countries where we work. We focus a lot on quality,' Macleod emphasised.

Maple Bear India Chairman Alok Modi said, 'Expanding our partnership, we will open 10 more pre- schools with Ansal API in the next 12-18 months.'
