A second UK Foreign Office minister on Monday quit the Cameron government, nearly a week after his colleague Sayeeda Warsi resigned in protest over Britian’s failure to take a tougher line against Israel over its assault on Gaza.
Mark Simmonds, in charge of Africa in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), had decided to leave ‘some weeks ago’ but the announcement was delayed until the minister had chaired a United Nations Security Council debate on the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday.
