Another MP on lamp thieves’ target this time

Once again, the Delhi Police is looking for thieves, who allegedly stole a lamp from the main entrance gate of a parliamentarian’s bungalow at the highly protected Lutyen’s zone in New Delhi.

On the morning of March 24, the vapour lamp – fixed inside a metal frame – at the main gate of Rajya Sabha member Dhiraj Prasad Sahu’s, 21, Ferozshah Road bungalow, was found missing and an FIR was registered immediately. However, Sahu was reportedly not present at the time of the incident, said a police source on Wednesday.

According to a senior police official, as many as 12 parliamentarian’s bungalows in the Lutyen’s zone have been targets of thieves between January 1 and March 25, this year. The police have so far been able to solve six of them and the accused in all six cases, turned out to be vagabonds frequently seen loitering in nearby areas.

Earlier this month, Sahu’s neighbour Rajya Sabha member Majeed Memon’s bungalow was the target of the Lutyen’s zone lamp thieves. So were the bungalows of two BJP’s Lok Sabha members – Lallu Singh, three plots away from Memon’s bungalow, and Chhedi Paswan at 27 Canning Road, not very far from the affected zone in Ferozeshah Road.

The theft was worse in Lok Sabha member Prem Singh Chandumajra’s (40, Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla Lane) bungalow, not very far from Paswan’s residence. On March 5, an electrician who was summoned to repair his Air Conditioner, reportedly discovered that the AC’s compressor was missing and an FIR was registered for the same.
