The victim, identified as Rinku (25) was declared brought dead by the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital. While the cause of the death hasn’t been known yet, family members of the deceased cry foul play.
They allege that the deceased was given some poisonous substance in the jail, as his body had turned blue. The police, however, denied the allegations and said, ‘conclusions can be drawn only after the post-mortem report comes out.’
The deceased was arrseted earlier this year for a robbery case in west Delhi. Interestingly, no injury marks were found on his body.
Sources have informed that the victim was found lying unconcious on the floor by another inmate of jail number one.
According to a Tihar official, psychiatrists visit the jail regularly and they identify prisoners who appear depressed.
Later they are counselled in groups of four to five. They advise the prisoners on a number of issues, listen to their problems and help them in getting acccustomed to the jail environment.
After two alleged suicides, one murder and one accidental death, this is the fifth death within the Tihar premises in September.
On Wednesday, one 24-year-old prisoner was allegedly stabbed to death by another prisoner after an altercation. On Sunday, a 38-year-old prisoner had allegedly hanged himself to death near his cell in the jail. In the first week of September, one under-trial prisoner had committed suicide while another died in an accident.
Records reveal that, 32 deaths have been reported from Tihar so far this year, as compared to only 18 deaths in 2013.
