In a similar incident, another minor girl was gang-raped in a moving car on another highway in the same area in broad daylight. Shockingly, the police were reluctant to register a case under relevant sections, but buckled only after medical reports confirmed it was rape.
As per reports, the incident took place on Bulandshahr-Aurangabad highway in Augota area, around 18 kilometres from the place where the first incident of gangrape had occurred earlier. A class X student was on her way from her village to the school when four men in a Swift Dezire car kidnapped her. They kept their vehicle moving on the highway for three-four hours, gang raped the girl till her condition turned critical. She was thrown near a housing society in Siyana, about 10 kilometres away from the place where the girl was kidnapped. Passers-by tried to nab the accused but they managed to flee along with their car. The girl was first taken to a nearby hospital where her condition was reported to be critical following which she was referred to the district hospital.
The victim’s father told police that his daughter was gang-raped, but initially, the concerned police officials refused to register a case under the sections of gang rape. However, based on the statements, initially a case was registered under the charges of kidnapping, but after the medical examination report of the victim confirmed rape, sections (376-D and 376-G) of the Indian Penal code and section 5/6 of the POSCO Act were added to the FIR. Hours after the incident on Sunday, police claimed arrest of three of the four accused. Police claimed that the accused accepted their involvement during the interrogation. Police further said that one of the accused, Nitin, had proposed to the girl and rejection of proposal turned into a gangrape incident.
Notably, on the night of July 29, a 35-year-old woman and her teenage daughter were gang- raped by highway robbers when the family of six was driven off the national highway 91 in Bulandshahr.
