Anna's vehicle was attacked: sources

The anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare's convoy was attacked by some unknown miscreants near Chitnis Park in central Nagpur on Wednesday evening. No one was injured in the attacked. According to eye witnesses, the incident occurred when the convoy was approaching the ground.

Some miscreants pelted stones on the convoy and a window pane of the car was broken. Fortunately, Anna was not in the car during the incident. 'Our book sale vehicle was also attacked by some anti-socials,' alleged Suresh Pathare, Hazare's personal assistant.

It was said that the activists of youth Congress tried to damage the book sale vehicle of Anna team in protest against distribution of some pamphlets and booklets that depicted youth Congress icon Rahul Gandhi and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in bad light. 'No one has been arrested in this connection so far,' said Ankush Dhanvijay, the Commissioner of Police.

This is the second such attack against Team Anna in Nagpur. Earlier, some Congress workers had tried to disrupt the meeting of Arvind Kejriwal in Nagpur in November last year when he was addressing a gathering. However, Anna supporters beat them black and blue when they dared to boo Kejriwal while he was delivering a speech.

Anna was in Nagpur on Wednesday as a part of his Maharashtra tour to mobilise people's support for setting up of a Lokayukta in the state.

The Gandhian claimed that RSS has no role in the campaign against corruption. In no uncertain terms, the Gandhian also slammed RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's claim that the RSS

actively participated in his anti-corruption agitation. Saying that he has not met Bhagwat personally so far, Hazare termed Bhagwat's claims as 'ridiculous.'

He said neither the RSS general secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi nor any RSS functionary ever met him or lent support to his agitation. 'It was credible people and the common man who led the movement. It was the people's anguish and frustration with a corrupt system that evoked a massive response in the campaign,' he said.

Anna said that he would soon launch a massive agitation in the state on the issue of ongoing water crisis. 'A lot of money is pumped into irrigation projects but it fails to yield the desired results ostensibly due of large-scale corruption in the irrigation department,' he alleged. 'I will meet chief minister Prithviraj Chavan in this regard soon and launch the agitation across the state,' he announced.

The Gandhian crusader strongly opposed the use of army to quell naxal movement in the country. '[The naxalites] have not come from Pakistan or England. They are our brothers and sisters. I am against the violent path of the naxalites, but the government policies had led to the present crisis,' he said.

He urged the naxalites to abandon the path of violence and join the social mainstream. 'Problems cannot be resolved through guns, it can only be resolved through dialogues,' he insisted.

Answering a question, he welcomed the recent nomination of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar to the Rajya Sabha. 'Sachin is a lovable person. He is honest and his image is clean,' he said.
