The two stars of the anti-corruption movement Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal met on Monday for the first time after they split on the issue of forming a political party. The meeting – also attended by Kejriwal's aide Manish Sisodia – seems to have softened up Hazare. After the meeting, the veteran activist almost suggested to Kejriwal that he should fight the next Lok Sabha election against the union minister Kapil Sibal.
'I will ask Arvind to fight election against Kapil Sibal from Chandni Chowk. If he fights against Sibal, I will campaign for him,' said Hazare. Giving the reason for his opposition to Sibal, he said, 'He was the first one to object to the Jan Lokpal bill. He asked how could outsiders be in the joint committee. I told him that when the country became a republic, people became the ruler of the country and he was just a servant. Then he was enlightened a bit. It is not good for such people to be in the government.'
For the first time after the break-up between the two activists, Hazare praised Kejriwal. 'So far, I have not found any faults in Arvind. He has sacrificed his family life to serve society. It is not right to say that he is driven by ambition. Whatever he has done, he has done for the society. There is no selfishness [in him],' Hazare said.
