Anna Hazare’s aides feel justified in CAG findings

The tabling of the CAG report on the coal block allocation, power and Delhi airport in Parliament gave another reason to the disbanded Team Anna to attack the government. On Friday, they demanded the registration of an FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the people accused of favouring private players. Arvind Kejriwal and Prashant Bhushan made these demands at a press conference on Friday.

The former Team Anna had earlier levelled charges of corruption against 15 leaders of the United Progressive Alliance government during their fast at Jantar Mantar and demanded independent inquiry against them. Their charges included alleged irregularity in the allotment of coal blocks and favourable decisions of Praful Patel while being in charge of the civil aviation ministry.

The team targeted political parties and accused them of not being serious about tackling corruption and benefiting from the sale of country’s natural resources.

Kejriwal said that there were no agencies in the county which could investigate the allegations of corruption against 15 ministers. ‘Prime Minister, please tell us where should we go to register an FIR on the basis of these reports. All the agencies are under the prime minister’s control and that is why we demand a Lokpal,’ Kejriwal said. ‘If Jan Lokpal was there, we would have complained and in six months, the probe would have been completed. In one year, the case would have been heard and the accused would have been sent to jail in 18 months,’ he said.

The lawyer Prashant Bhushan claimed that the CAG report on the Delhi airport showed how public-private partnership has become a euphemism for using public resources and assets for private profits.
