Curfew was on Tuesday imposed for 48 hours at Kisanganj following widespread protests after a slaughtered animal was found near a place of worship.
‘The district administration has clamped curfew for 48 hours as a precautionary step from 1 pm today(Tuesday),’ district magistrate Animesh Kumar Parashar said. ‘The situation is under control at present. We will assess the situation and take further action,’ he said. As soon as the information had spread about the slaughtered animal last night, people came out on the streets and staged protest by burning tyres, the police said.
Protesters on Tuesday burnt tyres on the streets and forced shops and banks to down their shutters.
The Capital Express from Danapur to Kamakhya was delayed at Kisanganj railway station for over three hours due to the agitation, they said.
Superintendent of Police Deepak Barnwal said that additional police force has been deployed in the town to maintain normalcy.
