Angry over wife’s excessive use of smartphone, man kills her & self

In a shocking incident in South-west Delhi, a 36-year-old woman was shot dead by her husband who later shot himself on Friday morning only because she was excessively using her smartphone to make new friends and was chatting with them.

The couple identified as Jagbeer (40) and Anita (36). Jagbeer was working as a private security guard at a jewellery shop in Karol Bagh and was living in Haryana and few weeks ago Anita left her home and came back to her paternal home with her two teenaged children in Gopal Nagar in South-west Delhi. On early Friday at around 7.30 am, Jagbeer reached his in-laws’ house to have a word with his wife but he allegedly found her chatting on WhatsApp with some stranger.

According to official sources, Anita barely paid attention to what her husband was telling her which triggered Jagbeer’s anger. He then pulled out his licensed pistol and first shot at her hand after which her smartphone fell on the ground. Within a few seconds, he again shot at her. This time at her chest following which he shot himself and the duo fell on the ground in the pool of blood.

A call was received by the police control room at around 7.45 am and a team reached the spot. The duo was rushed to the nearby hospital where they were declared brought dead. The bodies have been sent for the post-mortem examination and the reports are awaited.

At the time of the incident, both the children, aged 14 and 16, were inside the house and after the incident they are in a state of shock. During investigation it was learnt that recently Anita had bought a smartphone. Since then, she had made a Facebook profile and a WhatsApp account. It was also learnt that Anita most of the time remained online and made many unknown friends on these sites. 

Apart from other marital discords, the major reason behind the regular fights was the smart-phone.
The family members of Anita remained unavailable for comments. Meanwhile, the investigating officers are also questioning the owner of the jewellery shop in Karol Bagh and his other friends. Also, the mobile phone has been taken into possession.

A case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and further investigation is underway, said Surender Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-west).
