Ammonia levels rise, DJB shuts two plants

For the fifth time this month, the ammonia level at Wazirabad pond rose beyond permissible limits, forcing Delhi Jal Board to reduce production by 25 per cent at two of its water treatment plants in Wazirabad and Chandrawal.

The permissible level of ammonia in raw water is 0.2 parts per million (PPM) but sources say that since the last 14 days, ammonia level has not dropped below 0.5 ppm. ‘The matter was taken up by the member (water supply) DJB.
