Amit Shah’s rally: HC directs police chief to meet BJP

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday directed the Commissioner of Kolkata Police to meet state BJP representatives and inform it about the outcome on a proposed public meeting by the party’s president Amit Shah on 30 November, for which the police allegedly did not give permission.

Hearing a petition by the state BJP alleging that the city police had not given permission for holding the public meeting at Esplanade in the city, Justice Debangshu Basak directed the police commissioner to meet the party’s representatives on 20 November and inform the court about its outcome the next day.

The state counsel submitted that the Kolkata Police authorities have not received any application for the meeting which BJP wants to hold in front of Victoria House in the heart of the city.
