If BJP sources are to be believed, party president Amit Shah is a relieved man these days.
Shah’s relief stems from the fact that prime minister Narendra Modi is setting the stage ahead of the party chief’s scheduled visits to Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Jammu & Kashmir where assembly elections are expected either this year or early next year.
Party sources said, Shah, after playing the role of the chief architect of BJP’s astounding Lok Sabha results in Uttar Pradesh had huge expectations riding on him. The expectations had become a ‘nightmare’ for Shah when it came to assembly elections in Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir.
Considered as Modi’s ‘blue-eyed boy’, even the prime minister wants things to be on the right track for Shah as so much has been said about his leadership qualities.
‘When it comes to guarding the country from Machiavellian politics or bringing surajya (good governance), the recent working between the party and the government is going on in tandem. PM’s visits, ahead of the party president, in states due for elections are well planned,’ party sources said. ‘This is Modi’s election campaign in the name of announcing central schemes in these states,’ he added.
Referred to as the ‘man of the match’ by the PM, Shah wanted Modi to address the crowd before his visit and this is exactly what happened on 12 August to achieve Mission 44+ in Jammu and Kashmir.
Modi reached J&K to tap the 20 per cent vote share of displaced people by announcing immediate rehabilitation. Later, he set the mood by inaugurating the 44 MW Chutak hydro-power project.
It was learnt that now Shah, in his maiden visit after becoming the party’s chief, will visit Jammu and Kashmir on 25 August.
Similarly in Haryana, Modi did the same on Tuesday. He has announced raining sops for the state to woo the voters. Informed sources said since the stage is set by the PM himself, Shah is likely to make a trip to Haryana soon to address rallies to woo the voters.
‘Strategies for Jharkhand and Maharashtra too were planned keeping the assembly elections in mind. Modi ji is done with these states too, which will be followed by the party president in September,’ party sources said.
Sources claimed Modi cannot afford to lose party’s gaining ground in the country and knowing that it would be a disaster if BJP fails to achieve better results in assembly polls — he himself decided to hit the state — making Shah’s job easier.
