Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Monday exhorted the new members to work selflessly for the party without having any “conflict of interest” and asked “career oriented” people to avoid being part of the saffron outfit.
The BJP had earlier claimed a membership of over nine crores, as its drive to enroll new members was extended till April 30.
“Karm karo, phal ki chinta mat karo (do your work and don’t worry about the results),” Shah said, addressing the BJP’s 35th foundation day in New Delhi. The BJP was founded on April 6, 1980.
He said those having “a career-oriented thought” should avoid being a part of the BJP. “Don’t join the party for any post. Fame and position will automatically come, if you work hard,” the party president said. The BJP had earlier claimed a membership of over nine crores.
“From Syama Prasad Mukherjee to Narendra Modi and to Deen Dayal Upadhyay, all of them sacrificed their lives to serve the people, without any expectation. I salute their austerity and renunciation,” Shah said.
Taking a dig at Arvind Kejriwal, he said, “Some people talk about simplicity. To be more precise they talk of being a common man). I would like to tell them that there are many BJP leaders who did not even had a bank account, a roof to cover themselves. Despite that, they served poor people of the society.” He also interacted with the workers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too, greeted the party workers on the occasion of BJP’s foundation day. “On the BJP’s Sthapana Diwas my greetings to all BJP karyakartas and well-wishers,” Modi tweeted.
“BJP’s phenomenal growth is due to the efforts and hard work of generations of selfless karyakartas who devoted their lives to our Nation. BJP will leave no stone unturned to fulfill people’s aspirations and create an India that is strong, developed and inclusive,” he said.
