Amid on-going strike, 29-yr-old woman dies of TB in Rajan Babu hospital

As doctors, nurses and other medical staff of MCD hospitals are on strike over non-payment of salaries and other dues, a 29-year-old woman succumbed in absence of treatment on time at Aisa’s largest Rajan Babu TB hospital. The doctors, however, said that the woman was a severe patient of tuberculosis which caused her death but they also assured to investigate that whether she was denied treatment due to the on-going strike.

As per the report, one Kusumlata, was a tuberculosis patient and was admitted to the hospital on Monday. On Tuesday, the doctors reported her death due to seriousness of her illness. The family members on the other hand claimed that Kusumlata died in absence of proper treatment as majority of staff are on strike and carelessness of on-duty staff.

“It is a clear case of medical negligence as the patient was denied medical treatment. Earlier, they refused to admit and once admitted nobody took care of her. We demand fair probe of the case so the guilty persons could be punished,” said a bereaved family member.

The hospital authority accepted that the medical services have been affected due to massive strike but suspected that the woman might have died due to prolonged illness. “Though she was not in good condition but we have been investigating the matter properly. If she has been denied medical treatment, guilty staff will be punished,” said a senior hospital staff.
