Alleged serial rapist held, cops nab him in Bihar

According to police, the arrestee has been identified as Azad Khan (27), a resident of Muzaffarpur in Bihar. This year in the month of June, September and December, there were three separate cases of sexual assault against minors, which were reported in Govindpuri police station in south-east Delhi.
‘While taking the statements of the victims, the investigating officer noticed a common plan of picking up the victim and committing the crime. Different sketches were prepared on the basis of the descriptions given by all the three victims. It was further found that the accused in all three sexual assault cases is the same man. Since then the sketches were distributed to all the beat staff and a man-hunt was started,’ P Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police (south-east) said.
‘Several teams searched nearby areas and factory workers, owners, eyes and ears scheme members were also taken into confidence to trace the suspect. The source information along with technical data analysis pointed to one Azad Khan as the prime suspect.
‘Further on the basis of this information about the accused, a team headed by sub inspector Sandeep Godara, Special Staff, went to Bihar and the accused was apprehended,’ the official added.
In these cases, Khan used to pick the girls from different parts of Tughlakabad Extension and they were sexually assaulted in the nearby jungle area of Tughlakabad Fort. All the girls were aged between 10-12 years.
‘Khan would accuse the girl of having hit his nephew. He would then threaten to inform the girl’s parents and frighten her that once her parents were told, they would teach her a lesson. He would lead her away on the pretext of taking her to her parents,’ according to a police official. After raping the girl, police said, the man would drop the girl home.
‘After fulfilling legal formalities, he would be taken on remand to ascertain his involvement in other cases of assault on minor girls’, the officer said.
Khan had worked at various places of NCR for the last 6 to 7 years as an unskilled labourer and for the last two and a half years, he had worked in various factories of Tughlakabad Extn in south-east Delhi. He is illiterate and was residing with his wife in Gali No.33, Tughlakabad Extension, Govindpuri.
